Dr. Sophia Yue Li is a staff scientist and Strategic Partnerships Manager at the KITE Research Institute - University Health Network, with cross-appointments as a Professor in the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto. Armed with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Montreal, her research spans assistive technologies, the interplay of weather and the built environment on safety and accessibility, and human factors in fall prevention. With over two decades of biomedical engineering and rehabilitation expertise, Dr. Li has led impactful initiatives addressing practical challenges for older adults and people with disabilities. As Co-Chair of the IEA Slips, Trips, and Falls Technical Committee and a key member of various committees, including CSA and ASTM, she plays a pivotal role in shaping safety standards and fostering accessibility. Committed to advancing inclusive design, Dr. Li is also contributing to developing a model standard for the built environment as a member of the Accessibility Standards Canada Technical Committee. Her multifaceted leadership reflects a relentless commitment to improving lives through innovation, research, and accessibility advocacy.
