Dr. Fengfeng (Xi) is a Professor of Aerospace Engineering with Ryerson University and currently serves as the NSERC Senior Industrial Research Chair (IRC) in the area of advanced interiors and systems in collaboration with Bombardier Aviation. Under the IRC program, Dr. Xi's research team is developing advanced bio-mechatronic systems for the enhancement of air traveler's comfort and wellness. The objective of his current research is to apply various bio-mechatronic devices and tools, such as wearables, fabric computing, and printing electronics, to addressing four areas of comfort including seating, audio, visual and air quality. During this pandemic, his research team has been developing and testing a number of UVC and air ionization virus disinfection methods. His research laboratory is located on Ryerson's satellite campus in Toronto Downsview Park and equipped with an aircraft cabin donated by Bombardier. Dr. Xi received a Ph.D. degree from the University of Toronto and worked as a Research Officer for the National Research Council Canada prior to joining Ryerson University. Over his career, he has conducted over 40 research projects with over 100 journal papers. His paper on robotic rehabilitation received an award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineering, Journal of Mechanisms and Robotics in 2020.
